Pediatric Traumatologist
Gabriel Pizà
As a medical student at the University of Navarra, I was quickly drawn to musculoskeletal problems, which led me to specialize in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital (Barcelona). During these years of training I had the opportunity to better understand the most exciting stage of musculoskeletal development: growth.
So, when I had the opportunity to return to my native Mallorca in 1999 to work in the Pediatric Traumatology Service, I didn't have to think twice. Since then I have trained and dedicated myself exclusively to this part of the specialty.
Today, as Head of Section in the Pediatric Traumatology Service at the Hospital Universitari Son Espases, I am dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital, developmental and traumatic problems in pediatric patients. During these years I have had a special interest, from the healthcare and research point of view, in problems of the pediatric spine, being a member of the Scoliosis Research Society since 2013. I share this work with teaching at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Balearic Islands since its inauguration in 2016.
Accompanying children (and mothers and fathers) on this incredible journey from birth to skeletal maturity is a real luxury. Helping them understand what normal growth variations are, treating age-related pathologies and preventing complications, to allow our patients to reach adulthood in the best conditions: that is our job.
And now, in this fantastic Space that Jorge has created, I intend to carry out this work with a somewhat different approach. I hope to have the opportunity to advise patients and families who need it at a slower pace and with more personalized attention that this Space will allow us.
