Dermatologist

Joan Garcias

Dermatologist trained in Barcelona and Valencia. I have been working in Mallorca since 2014, first at the Hospital de Manacor and since 2018 at the Hospital Universitari Son Espases. I had the opportunity to complete a master's degree in dermatoscopy at the University of Graz, Austria. Along with clinical work, I enjoy research and I am currently pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Valencia. I speak German and English, as well as Spanish and Catalan.

My specialty has given me the privilege of dealing with children, since skin problems are very common in pediatrics. The skin diseases that we most frequently see in very young children are diaper rash, atopic dermatitis, skin infections such as impetigo, warts or molluscum contagiosum, and birthmarks. Later, in adolescence, seborrheic dermatitis and acne are very common.

Skin problems are visible and cause many symptoms, and sometimes cause more concern than other health problems. In addition, in the treatment of most skin conditions, the patient and their family members play a very important, essential role. Therefore, it is vitally important to take the time to explain each disease, its triggers and its possible treatments very well. And that is very difficult to achieve in an overloaded consultation room like the ones we have today in most medical centres, both public and private. The job of a doctor is not only to diagnose and treat the disease, but to listen and respond to the problems posed by the patient or their family members, to identify which solution best suits each family and to accompany them in the process. To do so, I look forward to seeing you at Espacio Jorge el pediatra.
